Bangladesh, the second-largest ready-made garment exporter in the world, has taken a leading position in sustainable green industrialization with the world’s several top-ranked green factories.
More than 500 garment factories in the country have registered themselves for opting green or environment-friendly production facilities, and these units are proceeding towards ensuring long-term sustainability.
The number of green factories has been increasing considerably in the country since 2014, although the unit prices of locally-made apparel items are declining.
Bangladesh is now home to the highest number of platinum-rated garment factories in the world. Twenty-five Bangladeshi factories have achieved the highest certificate provided by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Seven out of the top 10 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified factories worldwide are located in Bangladesh. Besides, a huge number of factories are going to green for sustainable business.
What is Green Garments Factory?
Green factory. A basic requirement for a “green factory” is energy-efficient and sustainable production that balances environmental and business interests. … Such an analysis ranges from the building structure and the materials used and the amount of power required for each unit of production.
Making the factories environmentally friendly or eco-friendly is becoming more and more important worldwide as day by day the planet is turning out to be more vulnerable for its inhabitants. Every year an unhealthy environment is killing millions of people worldwide. Environmental risks now contribute to more than 100 of the world’s most dangerous diseases and injuries, and kill 12.6 million people a year – nearly one in four or 23% of all deaths, according to a new World Health Organization (WHO) study.
To extend the green factories efficiency integration with technology is a must. Technology can become a cherry on the cake for a green garment factory.
